As International E-Waste Day (IEWD) approaches on October 14th, 2024, Green Wings Project is proud to announce our active support for this global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the fastest-growing waste stream: electronic waste (e-waste). Organised by the WEEE Forum, this day is an important reminder of the environmental impact caused by improper disposal of small electrical devices, such as vapes, mobile phones, and cables.
With millions of electronic devices being hoarded in homes or ending up in landfill, the UK is seeing an ever-growing mountain of e-waste. Last year alone, over 155,000 tonnes of electrical products were thrown away, and more than 527 million items are sitting unused in UK households. This year’s IEWD emphasises the need for collective action among individuals, retailers, local authorities, and businesses to stop this trend.

Green Wings Project’s Commitment to E-Waste Recycling
At Green Wings Project, our mission is to promote responsible e-waste recycling—especially for single-use electronics like vapes. We encourage both consumers and retailers to take part in responsible recycling practices. Our efforts include working with local retailers and authorities to provide convenient drop-off points for used vapes and other electronic items. We also offer comprehensive recycling solutions to retailers, helping them set up return systems for their customers.
In the spirit of IEWD, Green Wings Project encourages everyone to sort through their homes and workplaces to find old or unused electronics. Whether it’s a cable from a long-forgotten device or a used vape, recycling these items can significantly reduce the environmental burden. This year, we are especially focused on raising awareness about recycling lithium batteries from e-cigarettes, which pose severe environmental risks if not disposed of correctly.
